just some inspiration

I miss not having any opportunities to go to the new york shows.  I miss the buzz that surrounds that week.

Some other things I miss about NYC.

Thanks Tommy Ton for most of these shots.

winter?

Everyone in the NE is wondering what happened to winter.  I spent a wonderful weekend in Vermont and it was nice to spend some time in the fresh, cold, brisk air with snow on the ground (well, not much snow) & then snuggle by a large fireplace.  It feels like spring is here already, but before I jinx it, thought I would share some cozy interiors as an homage to the winter that wasn't.

I was obsessed with Aerin Lauder's ski house after I saw it in Vogue this winter.

Some classic cozy getaways.

more amsterdam

Just wanted to share some of the great scenes from the past weekend.  The canals of Amsterdam are frozen for the first time in 17 years!  It made for a very convivial crowd over the weekend.  Whole families were out on the canals racing, skating, walking & enjoying the fun of it all!

Here was a group set up dining out on the canal one night.

Did some window shopping.

Love the leather chairs.  Beautiful small scale.

Great chandelier dripping with heavy clear crystals.

Great lamps at Gehenian & Gehenian

Exquisitely carved steer skulls.

This dress was unbelievable.

Some cheese, anyone?

I could definitely live here.  A spot on the canals would be grand.

dylan hotel, amsterdam

Just returned from a wonderful & quick trip to Amsterdam.  It was a great time with great people, great food in a great city.  I am refreshed and inspired.  On the first day some friends took us to the Dylan Hotel.  I really felt simpatico with the design of this place.

Amsterdam: Hotels

prep for my upcoming trip.  I spotted a post on remodelista about a design mecca of a hotel.  The Lloyd Hotel, where I will not be staying, is a monumental 1921 structure that was once a penitentiary for minors, before that it was a waystation for emigrants on their way out of Europe.  Now it's a concept hotel whose interiors were overhauled by high-profile Dutch designers, architects & artists. Claudy Jongstra, Hella Jongerius, Marcel Wanders and Richard Hutten, to name a few).

The 85 Lamps chandelier by Rody Graumans for Droog and AVL seating and table by Joep van Lieshout for Moooi in the common spaces.

Rooms located under the eaves have a rustic air.

From Dwell

I think Hella Jongerius is awesome.  I was pleased to see this article in Dwell:

Hella Cool
In her Berlin studio, rogue Dutch designer Hella Jongerius creates colorful, covetable objects that meld the handmade and the mass-produced in surprising new ways.
