Topping Rose House

Though I've yet to try it, last year Tom Colicchio began overseeing the new Topping Rose House hotel and restaurant in Bridgehampton, New York.  Housed in an 1842 Greek Revival mansion, the 75-seat dining space opened in September to rave reviews.

This spring marks the inn's debut.  The property holds the main dwelling and four nearby cottages totaling 22 rooms and includes a one-acre farm, a spa and a pool that looks out to a crab-apple orchard.
Here are some screen grabs from the website.

Living room project

I'd like to share a few before and after pics of a lovely family-friendly living room that I just installed.  The house has a great flow and comfy vibe.  The ceilings are pretty low; the original dark and heavy window treatments made the room a bit serious and almost gloomy.

Before:
Lightening up the paint and the window treatments and adding a large light neutral wool area rug really brightened the space.  It also slightly modernized the room to align with the client's sensibility.  The furnishings are classic, child friendly and blend lots of color and texture in a soothing way.  Adding layers of lighting (new fabric drum ceiling fixtures, sconces & lamps) provides ambiance and soft lighting for all times of day and night.

Next up, hanging art & finishing the dining room and entry.  Stay tuned.

slow in the snow

I have not posted for a while.  Besides work, a blizzard, a trip to Arizona and then a snowboard trip to VT has kept me away from the computer for any long stretches of time.
Here are some pictures of the slow to come together studio.

Stolen idea from fashion designer Vanessa Bruno's Paris loft.

 My presentation board & table.

Part of the still-to-be-organized materials library.

It was getting a little dark when I took this.  The overhead florescent lighting is atrocious.

Picked up these two chairs out of storage and they need to be reupholstered.
Trying to figure out what to put on them.

I love this grey linen fabric, but I think I want a nubby cream colored fabric on these mid-century arm chairs.  I like to keep it all neutral so I can have an plain backdrop that won't interfere with any new project that comes up.

I also took this Balinese day bed-bench thing from storage.  The cushion is really beat up.  I wrapped it with some textiles that I picked up in Peru, but then pulled out a favorite Ralph Lauren stripe that I think would be a weird juxtaposition.  It might not work, but I'm just playing at the moment.

Maybe ticking is the way to go.  That'll make it feel like a real mattress.

Hope to have more soon!
salut,
L

February wishes

Hotels I hope to be visiting soon.  As in: this month!
Miami is an annual long weekend trip that I hope to continue.  While Art Basel in December would be ideal, I can't say that I have that routine worked out.
I just need a little inspiration and sun about now.
